Cantina di Montalcino Rosso di Montalcino 2024

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast

This is classic Tuscan winemaking done right. Silky, bright, food-friendly and completely delicious from the first sip. Wine Enthusiast gave it 92 points and nailed exactly what I tasted: “Ultra fresh, crunchy and vibrant with tea leaf, bergamot, cranberries, fresh figs and tangy earthy elements.” These are the kinds of Montalcino bottles that make the big Brunello houses very nervous – the wines that prove you don’t need to spend $60-100 to drink something genuinely special from this appellation. This is Tuscany after all. Values are everywhere, if you know where to look!

Original price was: $45.00.Current price is: $20.00.

The nose has the herbaceous, tangy feel of tea leaf, bergamot and cranberries. On the palate, the cranberries are joined by fresh figs and other tangy, earthy elements, creating a wine which is ultra fresh, crunchy and vibrant.

Cantina di Montalcino has been working with local Montalcino growers since around 1970, sourcing Sangiovese from all four distinct climate and soil quadrants of the Montalcino municipality. This is a crazy huge advantage when farming the most celebrated Sangiovese appellation in the entire world. Decanter writes that they’re making “modern wines with respect for the past.”

In 2022, the Prosit Group elevated the entire operation, bringing serious investment and ambition to this historic address and raising the quality even further. This is classic Tuscan winemaking done right.
