Cantina Delsignore Gattinara il Putto 2017

Categories , ,

This is the first offer from the folks at Cantina Delsignore, but I promise you, it will not be the last.

I was only recently introduced to this winery, but I loved everything that was presented to me. They’re exactly the kind of the family-owned, ‘do it all the right way by hand’ winery that I love bringing to the Nicholas Wines faithful.

When we do a Gattinara offer, it has historically been the longtime Per Se-favorite pour, Petterino. But this one, at this price, deserves your attention – and if you’re a Nebbiolo fan, this is another special, age-worthy bottling that you simply cannot ignore.

The Gattinara Il Puto is a gem. Antonio Galloni called it “one of the most exciting wines I tasted” in his entire Alto Piemonte report. There’s a good reason for that too. Winemaker Stefano Doreli is a dynamo. He does everything in the classical sense, with long fermentations and extended aging in casks. His finished product is like a work of art – what Galloni called, “a translucent, finely-knit Gattinara” when he reviewed this wine and gave it a 93-point score. That’s what it is – a wine that’s built to last.

Original price was: $40.00.Current price is: $28.00.

93 Points, Vinous
The 2017 Gattinara Il Putto is a potent Alto Piedmont red. There is plenty of depth, but the tannins are quite imposing at this stage. Tim in the glass brings out shades of raspberry, orange peel, cinnamon, leather and crushed flowers. This translucent, finely-knit Gattinara will benefit from a year or two in the cellar.
