Cam X ‘Lot 15’ Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2023

93 Points, James Suckling

This comes from the organically farmed and well-regarded Rock Cairn Vineyard—fruit that sells for well over $100/bottle under the various labels including Far Niente. Cameron Hughes purchased this sensational final Oakville Cabernet blend and finalized it with a splash of Malbec and Petite Verdot, creating something even more magical than the already exceptional base wine.

James Suckling gave it 93 points, not that it needed one! He could barely continue his excitement, calling it “Plush, complex and juicy, with real polish and focus. Delicious. A good value, particularly for the AVA.” This is a gorgeous Cabernet that I imagine will only get better over the next 5-10 years.

Original price was: $50.00.Current price is: $33.00.

93 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of red and black fruit with hints of potpourri, spices and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with a textural mouthfeel and fine-boned tannins. It’s plush, complex and juicy, with real polish and focus. Delicious. A good value, particularly for the AVA. Drink or hold.

For those who don’t know Cameron Hughes Wine, they’re similar to Chad. They’re a négociant that sources excess, high-quality wine from established—often premium—wineries across California. In short: Cameron Hughes delivers exceptional wine quality at incredible value by leveraging the anonymity needs of top-tier producers.

But with the 2023 vintage, Cameron saw an opportunity unlike any he’d seen before. California was reeling from a massive 2022 vintage that flooded the market with wine, leaving producers desperate to move inventory. Then 2023 arrived with near-perfect spring conditions and a summer forecast calling for far less heat than previous years. Early praise for the vintage was incredibly high, but producers were sitting on unsold 2022 wine and facing another large crop. That opened up a giant door.
