2017 Howell Mountain Cabernet
96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Coming from estate fruit on Howell Mountain and made from 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% each of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Merlot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers a darker, more mineral-driven style compared to the Napa release. It has beautiful blackcurrant, cassis, forest floor, graphite, and tobacco leaf-like aromas and flavors. Deep, full-bodied, beautifully polished and elegant, it’s another remarkable effort from this team. As Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon goes, it’s a brilliant value!

2018 Howell Mountain Cabernet
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes all from the estate on Howell Mountain and is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, and the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot. More blue fruits, bay leaf, candied violets, orange blossom, and floral notes emerge from this full-bodied beauty, which reveals a rounded, sexy texture, polished tannins, and a great finish. Give bottles just a few years in the cellar and it’s going to keep for 15+.

95 Points, Antonio Galloni
“The 2018 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a total knock-out. Winemaker Danielle Cyrot has done a tremendous job tamin the Howell Mountain tannins. There is still plenty of power and structure, but all the elements are so well balanced here.”

95 Points, Eric Guido -Vinous
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a sumptuous Howell Mountain Cabernet. It offers up an exciting melange of dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, spice, game, mint and blood orange. More than anything else, the Estate Cabernet delivers plenty of Howell Mountain richness with nicely softened tnanins that make it a total pleasure to taste.

2019 Howell Mountain Cabernet
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is even better, with a stunning nose of black and blue fruits as well as iron, black olive tapenade, and subtle herbal nuances. Pure 2019 goodness on the palate, it’s full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish. It’s not for those looking for old school Claret, but it brings beautiful richness and depth and will shine for at least 10-12 years as well.

95 Points, Vinous
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a huge opulent wine. A blast of inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, plum and menthol gives the 2019 its racy, extroverted personality. The Estate is a typical wine from Cade that balances Howell Mountain intensity with plenty of Napa Valley lushness. The 2019 is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Plumpjack’s CADE dream came to fruition in 2005, in the form of a 54-acre estate, elevated high above the fog line, on the dramatic slopes of Howell Mountain. Absolutely ridiculous. The state-of-the-art winery pays tribute to the land, both aesthetically and ecologically.

The two-fold commitment initiated in the vineyards with a painstaking program of natural cultivation to convert the vineyards to organic farming practices. “Change is good, green is good, organic is good,” says CADE partner John Conover about the estate’s environmentally proactive approach to winemaking. “We’re doing it because it’s the right thing to do as stewards of the land.

Even though this project is still relatively new, the early results have been nothing short of excellent on Howell Mountain. Every year, this is a consistently super highly rated project that features some of the best expression of Howell Mountains power and finesse. Plumpjack’s sibling winery even steals the spotlight in great vintages like this one.
