In the last 30+ years, perhaps no other winery in California has had as much success with Rhone varietals as the great Randall Grahm. He would grow his tiny vineyard project into the 28th-largest winery in the country with pioneer brands such as Big House, Cardinal Zin, and Pacific Rim.
A man with that kind of passion and drive cannot be slowed down, so eventually he’d sell off his three biggest brands in the 2000s to focus on producing singular wines expressive of place. He also decided to dry-farm his legendary Estate Cigare vineyard, a move that would be risky for some, but for Grahm, it just further separates him from his peers.
Of course, as Grahm starts to dry-farm this vineyard, the concentration and flavors have only intensified. The latest batch of wines from him are the juiciest, most seductive I’ve tasted from Bonny Doon in the fifteen or so years I’ve been sampling these wines. Unsurprisingly, it has resulted in an increased demand as well as a plethora of big scores.

Crisp aromas of melon, peach and rose petal are doused in an engaging tinge of fresh lime on the nose of this bottling. The palate is very approachable with ripe peach and melon flavors that aren’t shy.

At 350 feet above sea level, growing seasons are often extended with warm days and cool, breezy nights. The diurnal changes of temperature help create healthy vines and grapes that are packed full of complexity, concentration and energy. Ain’t a whole of Provence wineries that can compare. We’ve offered Val de Caire’s spectacular Provence Rouge before, but their bread and butter wine, the Coteaux d’Aix en-Provence Rose has finally been imported into the U.S. for the first time. People are gonna go nuts for this wine.
All 90-95 Point Reds
I decided to get even a little more creative than usual for our first ever Easter egg hunt. Each three-pack comes with one each of Turley Reds with one receiving a 90-point review from Wine Advocate, one receiving a 93-point review from Wine Advocate and one snagging a rave 95-point review from Antonio Galloni’s Vinous. Each of these 3-packs has a $125/pack value. But not today at Nicholas Wines!

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Ygnacia Hyde Vineyard is another magnificent wine from Hyde De Villaine. Vertical, deep and explosive, the 2021 possesses tremendous depth from start to finish. Dark red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, pomegranate, and spice notes are all beautifully amplified. The 2021 was done with fully destemmed fruit, sourced from 2.5 acres planted in 2010 with four different selections. What stands out most in the wine’s natural concentration.” -Vinous
93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
