Bodega Luna Beberide Bierzo Mencía Vino de Villa 2025

93 Points, Tim Atkin – Master of Wine

Bodega Luna Beberide is a name you have to know if you don’t already. Their 2025 ‘Vino de Villa’ Mencia is absolutely delicious. It’s one of Spain’s top values and then some. This is easily one of the best backyard wines you can bring to the table. Master of Wine, Tim Atkin gave it 93 points and described it perfectly: “Crunchy, juicy and tangy with some stemmy grip, wonderful energy and focus, stony intensity and a core of pomegranate, plum and goji berry fruit. Lip-smackingly delicious.” If that doesn’t win you over, I don’t know what will.

Luna Beberide has been one of Bierzo’s most exciting estates for years, but since Alejandro Luna took control in 2016, something magical has happened. He deliberately scaled production from over 600,000 bottles down to under 140,000 – a crazy bold decision that tells you everything about where his priorities lie. More land, fewer bottles, but tons more personality and depth. Lucky for him, the results speak for themselves.

Robert Parker’s top Spanish critic, Luis Gutiérrez, noted “a jump in precision, elegance and definition” across the entire lineup, calling the wines more aromatic, more floral and more expressive of what Bierzo is truly capable of.
