Bedrock Wine Co. is a phenomenal California winery, founded in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson MW (Master of Wine), the son of Ravenswood’s legendary Joel Peterson. What makes Bedrock so compelling is its deep dedication to preserving and rehabilitating California’s historic, old-vine vineyards, many of which were planted over a century ago by pioneering viticulturists.

Morgan and his team, including partner Chris Cottrell, approach winemaking with a philosophy that celebrates diversity and minimal intervention, allowing these ancient sites to truly express themselves. They emphasize regenerative and organic farming practices, even integrating animals into their vineyards to improve soil health and biodiversity. Bedrock has quickly gained a cult following for producing authentic, soulful wines that speak volumes about California’s viticultural heritage.

At the very heart of the Bedrock story, and the winery’s namesake, is the Bedrock Vineyard itself in Sonoma Valley. This isn’t just any vineyard; it’s one of California’s most historically significant sites, with plantings dating all the way back to 1888. Originally planted by Senator George Hearst (William Randolph Hearst’s father) on phylloxera-resistant rootstock, this vineyard is a living piece of history. What’s truly unique about Bedrock Vineyard is its “field blend” nature – it’s primarily Zinfandel, but interplanted with dozens of other varieties like Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, and more, all picked and fermented together. This mixed-black heritage gives the wines a complexity, depth, and unique character that simply can’t be replicated. Morgan Twain-Peterson acquired this vineyard in 2005, and under Bedrock Wine Co.’s meticulous care, it continues to produce some of California’s most revered and expressive old-vine wines.
