There’s not enough of it to go around, but after a little prodding, I was able to secure a small allocation of the wine that shocked the wine world when it appeared in the Top 10 of Wine Enthusiast’s ‘Wines of the Year’ in 2019.
The influence of the Caymus training on Austin Hope is maybe a little too obvious. The big, dark fruit-forward expression of Cabernet owes so much to that Wagner Family experience but featuring that unique Paso Robles’ layer of dense, rich smokiness. The wine is so big, yet perfectly chiseled, it’s no surprise it has emerged as the likely standard bearer out of Paso Robles. For three years running achieving 95+ scores.
If you’re a fan of decades-old Napa Cabernet from valley’s top wineries but haven’t adjusted to the sticker shock, this is your chance to get in on the ground floor. At the best price in the country – and extra access for coming out before the scores – this is one to stock up on. Buy a few to drink now, a few to drink five years from now and a couple for the long haul.

91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
Not Eligible for Futher Discount-From famed winemaker, Robert Foley comes an absolute delight of a bottle of wine. A seamless Bordeaux blend of 80% Cabernet, 17% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot that is incredibly smoothly now but should have another decade easy of prime drinking. It is the definition of a Saturday Night bottle of wine. One to cherish for a special occasion.

“The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
