At this point in his illustrious career, there aren’t a whole lot of things that Hervé Fabre hasn’t done. But for a man that has accomplished so much, the idea of taking the reigns at Alta Yari in the budding region of Gualtallary was an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass up.
After all, the value of old vines and high-quality farming is what first lured the great Fabre from Bordeaux to Mendoza, Argentina. The Alta Yari project gives the legend the amazing opportunity to work with vines at nearly 5000 feet above sea level that were planted in the 1980s. The extreme altitude and the specific mix of soils led Hervé to believe this to be the best potential for a “grand cru” in the Andean foothills.

This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. “The 2021 Malbec Reserva, from Vistalba, Lujan de Cuyo, was 60% aged in barrels for 12 months. Purple in color. The nose presents notes of fresh plum and violets, white pepper, strawberry, hints of spice and aromas from the aging process. It’s initially indulgent in the mouth, with good fat, and volume and a velvety texture. The flavors are bold and full-bodied. This 2021 overdelivers at the price.” -Vinous

Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.
