1792 Small Batch is Barton’s flagship bourbon. Having undergone naming changes over the years from 1792 Ridgewood Reserve, to 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, and finally to 1792 Small Batch.
This is a special 12-year old bottling that I was able to snag just a few bottles of. It all starts with the 1792 signature “high rye” recipe (believed to be about 15-20% Rye). This delicious bourbon is the result of maturing for more than a decade in the finest charred American white oak barrels. Rich flavors of vanilla and cocoa abound in this full-bodied bourbon the delicate fruit notes in this whiskey are met with a lingering smoky finish that is more complex than most.

Our special relationship with the red-hot Wyoming Whiskey has given us some incredible opportunities. We had a ‘Steamboat’ Whiskey that was previously only for the state of Wyoming as well as our own private barrel. Now, we’ve got their super limited production of Outryder Rye. It’s not a bourbon. It’s not a true rye. The result is a incredibly unique spirit that’s great for sipping or making cocktails. This Straight American Whiskey is a blend of two distinct mashbills, an almost Rye Whiskey and a High Rye Bourbon, that represents Wyoming Whiskey’s first use of Rye.

Joseph Magnus is a big time name in the whiskey world. Bourbon people go nuts for it. For my money, the Murray Hill Club Bourbon is the most interesting one in the lot, a skillful blend that marries 18 and 11-year-old bourbon with 9-year-old light whiskey. It boasts rich notes of toasted oak, vanilla, butterscotch, honey and toffee with dried fruits, nutmeg and a peppery, spicy finish. This one was bottled at 103 Proof. Just a handful of bottles are up for grabs.
This particular beauty is not only Barrel Proof but also sees extended aging in 18-year old ex-Bourbon barrels which I think adds some roundness and weight to the mid-palate and gives you a smoother finished product. Another advantage that Old Hickory has is they have Pam Soule, Seagrams master blender in charge, and she has helped their quality reach heights never seen before from this historic distillery.
In terms of rare and unique bottles go, this Japanese Whisky is up there with anything in the spirits world. It’s a blended whisky finished in Sakura (cherry blossom) casks and Hibiki® 30 Year Old, a rare annual release that retails for $5000/btl. Hibiki is a gorgeous blend of ten various malt and grain whiskies from Suntory’s Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries. It’s super aptly named as all of these flavors and smells mesh together beautifully, with no shortage of flavors and aroma.
