Chateau Hyot showcases the masterful skill of seventh generation winemaker Amelie Aubert and France if not the world’s most famous consultant, Michel Rolland. The wine is a Merlot-based blend, from 40 year-old vines, with Cabernet Franc bringing sophisticated aromas and silky tannins, and a dose of Cabernet Sauvignon for a structural backbone. Every year it provides an absurd value, but in the high flying 2018 vintage, it’s even more apparent than usual.
You wouldn’t necessarily expect expert validation on a thirteen dollar bottle of wine but James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast both gave 90+ scores with Suckling even going as high as 92 points. The wine is tight and firm with way more structure than one should expect at this price point. Spicy on the nose, with blackberry jelly on the palate, with a smooth and refined finish.

92 Points, James Suckling
A rich, delicious red from this appellation with berry, plum and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with round tannins and a savory finish. Nice tannin ripeness. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two.
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
A ripe and spicy wine, this shows rich tannins and a solid texture. Juicy blackberry jelly flavors lighten the load of richness and shed an attractive light on the wine’s fruitiness. Drink from 2021.

It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
