One of my favorite estates is Domaine Laroche, one of the venerable estates of Burgundy with a lineage in Chablis that can be traced back 1000 years. That’s 4 zeros in that number….so after that long, you’d think they would have it down. They definitely do.
The newly released 2021 Domaine Laroche Chablis Saint Martin is an absolute star. It’s a White Burgundy with a killer nose of citrus rind, quince and thyme that opens up to a dense, packed mid-palate of crunchy fruit. The finish is classic Chablis, chalky and minerally and incredibly smooth. The lengthy acidity is what makes it so versatile at the table and provides structure for great aging potential.
50 miles south, this would easily fetch eighty bucks but today only $33 per bottle or under thirty bucks when you add it to a case to take an additional 10% off your entire order. Pair with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, anything from the sea and cream sauces for your own date night!

92 Points, Decanter
Classy, understated style of Chablis with a great balance between ripeness of fruit and powerful acidity. The palate has a creamy texture with no jagged edges and fine, mineral characters coming through on the finish. Real purity and drive here – one of the best Saint Martin Chablis I’ve tried.
If it was sourced an hour and change south, it would be double the price.
Pair with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, anything from the sea and cream sauces.
94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Every single year, Adam Tolmach’s Bien Nacido Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are showered with huge scores. It’s like death and taxes. The last time one of his wines failed to receive at least a 90 from The Wine Advocate was back in 2005! In Cali’s “bounce back” 2021 vintage, you know the big score trend continued. The new release has yet to be reviewed by the usual suspects (Wine Advocate, Vinous) but Jeb Dunnuck did get his hands on it and gave it a rave 94-point review where he highlighted the “supple mouthfeel, terrific balance and clean finish.”
It’s no wonder this is a hot little ticket amongst some of NYC’s best restaurants; this is a killer wine at a great price. The 2022 Petit Chablis has an attractive nose of citrus rind, white flowers, and wet stone. In the palate, the wine is racy and mineral with just a touch of salinity. The hallmark of the great 2022s will be tension and length and Sébastien’s little wine has both in spades. The acidic/mineral cut will make this fantastic at the table and a great candidate for short term aging.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
Guess which all-time favorite Chardonnay is back just in time for Mother’s Day? That’s right! This is one that Nicholas Wines readers can’t get enough of – it always delivers.. It leads with an inviting nose with fresh citrus and lemon notes. So juicy, bright and well-balanced – it’s classic Caymus, rich and hedonistic with a wonderful creaminess. A quintessential California Chard.
