Wolffer Estate is one of the pioneers in the wine world that no one saw coming. While most of the folks in the industry were making ‘blush’ and passing it off as Rose, the folks at Wolffer decided to devote all of their resources into making a deliberate and thoughtful Rose as one of their flagship wines. It’s not that they don’t make other wines – they make plenty, but the winery saw an opportunity to make something special, instead of just making ‘something’.
Now after 30 years, and more than five million bottles sold, it appears as though the Hamptons winery was onto something special – creating a brand that has withstood the test of time and helped put NY wine on the map.

There’s a consistency to Pierre Sparr wines that consumers just know they can count on throughout the entire portfolio. The wines deliver aromatics, elegance, clean fruit and are packed with vibrancy. They also happen to be extremely food-friendly, especially in the past few vintages where yields were down but quality rose to an all-time high. This is a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
94 Points, James Suckling – 92 Points, Wine Spectator
“Scented nose with dark cherries, blueberries, dried thyme, plums, bark, roasted meat and baking spices following through to a medium to full body with finely grained tannins. Elegant and textural with a velvety core of juicy and crunchy berries on the mid-palate mingling with herbs and spices in harmony. Well-composed with a precise long finish.” -James Suckling
Winemaker Pascal Sirat consistently puts out some of the best value Bordeaux in the region but he may have outdone himself in what was a stellar 2019 vintage throughout the region. Just south of Pomerol, the vines at Panchille borrow deep in the soil. The resulting wines are ripe but fresh, with an aromatic complexity and stony finish usually reserved for wine twice the price. Daniel Boulud tells me it’s been the hottest bottle of wine at Bar Boulud for over a month, so I figured I’d better hurry up and secure my allocation! Don’t miss it.
The wine is so dang good, nearly every single one of my staff tried to take the sample bottle home when it was brought into the restaurant. It’s just so juicy, lively and pure. Even without the score, this is a total layup. This is a gorgeous French Rosé at an absurd price. One of the absolute best quality-to-price ratio offers of the year, every single year… no questions asked.
