The extreme elevations of Guillaume Reynier’s Domaine Val de Caire are unlike any other in Provence. Located just north of Aix-en-Provence, Guillaume’s organically farmed vines are sheltered by the massive forest of Parc Naturel Regional du Luberon and surrounded by a spectacular landscape of wildflowers, herbs, and oak trees. It’s a winemaking oasis.
At 350 feet above sea level, growing seasons are often extended with warm days and cool, breezy nights. The diurnal changes of temperature help create healthy vines and grapes that are packed full of complexity, concentration and energy. Ain’t a whole of Provence wineries that can compare.
We’ve offered Val de Caire’s spectacular Provence Rouge before, but their bread and butter wine, the Coteaux d’Aix en-Provence Rose has finally been imported into the U.S. for the first time. People are gonna go nuts for this wine.

Their newly released 2023 Effet Papillon Rosé is an aromatic fireworks show made 100% from Grenache (as many of the best Southern French Rosés are). It’s so fresh and delicious with seductive aromas of fresh peach, Bing cherry, and orange with a hint of lemon zest. It’s vibrant, bright, and dry, making it a great wine to enjoy with food. However, this Rosé is so good, with its layers of complexity and structure, it’s more than worthy of enjoying on its own. Especially on a scorcher like we have today!

The 2020 Vieilles Vignes is a must-have for Châteauneuf lovers. It’s easily one of the very best made in what was an outstanding 2020 vintage and comes with the big scores to prove it. The superstar estate led by Michel Maret has been one of the best in the region for two decades +. But it earned its highest ever score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate with this silky smooth monster. Jeb Dunnuck agreed, calling it “wonderfully done and should rank with the crème de la crème of the vintage.” This one is a beauty flush with black cherries, raspberry and licorice with massive shoulders.
This champagne is so good, it’s often a staple on the wine lists of Michelin two and three star restaurants. It offers elegant aromatics, pristine fruit and the crisp, mineral finish that screams for food. We loved it so much, we asked Jacques Diebolt to bottle a special cuveé for the restaurant– and he happily agreed, but unfortunately it sold out like hot cakes. No matter, here is old faithful. Just as delicious and memorable as I remember it.

“The 2019 Oublié is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tannat and Petite Sirah with a medium ruby-purple color. The nose offers gregarious mixed berry preserves and accents of potpourri, mint and fragrant earth. The palate offers juicy appeal and powerful fruit with loads of spice and floral perfume, bursts of freshness and firm, pleasantly rustic tannins, finishing very long.” -Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
