Nicholas worked hard this year with the Man In Red to put together an incredible assortment of wines with holiday meals and entertaining in mind. Together, the two wanted to make sure that this year you saw wines you’ve never seen before that you can get only in the folly, jolly Ho Ho Ho 2021 Case. Three juicy Reds that can light up a room and a special Sparkler from Germany that will surely steal some Champagne fans away!
The Ho Ho Ho 2021 Case includes 3 each of the following four wines:
Ettore Germano Barbera D’Alba 2020
Across the board, Sergio Germano’s wines show incredible vibrancy. They are big wines with such a streak of elegance, a quality rare in any part of the wine world. You’re going to love his newly released 2020 Barbera d’Alba, a product of fermenting and aged in a steel tank so it is completely about the fruit, with no oak influence. It’s clean, concentrated, zipped up Barbera, as good a food wine as any we have offered at Nicholas Wines.
Chateau Panchille Bordeaux Superior 2018
Winemaker Pascal Sirat consistently puts out some of the best value Bordeaux in the region but he may have outdone himself in the 2018 vintage. Just south of Pomerol, the vines at Panchille borrow deep in the soil. The resulting wines are ripe but fresh, with an aromatic complexity and stony finish usually reserved for wine twice the price. Daniel Boulud tells me it’s been the hottest bottle of wine at Bar Boulud for a few months, so I figured I’d better hurry up and secure my allocation!
Trousse Chemise Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills 2020
If you’ve noticed what superstar winemaker Anne Sery has been up to, she’s making more and more Cabernet from Washington state. The winemaking with an extensive Bordeaux background has found a passion project to match her outstanding day job making some of our favorite Oregon Pinots. In the big 2020 vintage in Washington, Anne found a few choice plots in the Horse Heaven Hills that really deliver full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignons with strong acidic backbones that make it an exceptional choice with anything on the holiday dinner table. Her new release is a treat that is going to earn her even more fans than she already has.
Steinmetz Cremant Brut Liaison NV
Stephen Steinmetz biodynamically farms this tiny estate in the Obermosel, east of Frankfurt, very close to the border with Luxembourg. His old vines of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir are rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone, the same vein of rock found in Sancerre, Chablis and Champagne. His Liaison, is a sparkling wine made in the methode of Champagne, is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The wine is a terrific nose, with aromas of green apple, berries and brioche. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, juicy with flavors of pear and apple, with a creamy mousse and tiny bubbles, finishing long, savory and stony. It’s the perfect aperitif or as accompaniment to smoked salmon or any simple white fish.

In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
Every month, Nicholas Wines will ship two wines hand-selected by Nicholas Harary. Discover a new region, variety, or style! This is the perfect gift for both introductory and expert wine lovers!
92 Points, Wine Spectator
“Luxurious and rich, yet pinpoint in focus, with expressive apple and strawberry flavors highlighted by brioche, ginger and spices. Drink now.” -Wine Spectator
Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.
