Thanksgiving is the type of occasion that is infinitely improved by having great wines on the table. This year, I have you covered in a big way. We found a number of absolute gems – some extremely highly rated, all great values and perfect for Turkey day. Then, we discounted the case 34% from its SRP. That’s a slamming deal – and our biggest discount ever.
Four very different wines (three bottles each) that all bring something different to the table offered up a great price that amounts for big savings! A delicious Russian River Pinot Noir that is always a NW favorite, the return of the Gobbler-exclusive Chad McKinley Springs Cabernet Sauvignon, a very highly rated, juiced up Sangiovese from the kings of Chianti, iconic Castello di Volpaia and last but not least, a double-90 point gorgeous bottle of bubbles in the form of a zippy yet elegant Crémant d’Alsace Brut Rosé courtesy of Pierre Sparr. A little something for everyone for $110/case OFF the regular price (34%). You simply cannot beat this Gobbler Case!
The 2022 Gobbler Case includes 3 bottles of each:
Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2018 (91pts, WE – 91pts, JS)
Chad Cabernet Sauvignon McKinley Springs 2020 (Gobbler Exclusive)
Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2020 (93 pts, JS – 92 Pts, WS)
Pierre Sparr Crement d’Alsace Brut Rose N.V. (Double 90+ Pt Scores)
Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2018
The Pinot Noir they make is always crafted like a painter going to work on a blank canvas. Petaluma Gap for its richness. The darkness and silky tannin provided by the warmer Santa Rosa plains fruit. And then the cherry on top is the rich, deep spice element – provided by a very special lot from the Middle Reach Neighborhood on West Side Road. A little bit of everything that all comes together. The result is spicy, generous Pinot that drinks well above its station due to the quality of the single parcels that were so expertly chosen. It’s pretty dang hard to resist.
Chad Cabernet Sauvignon McKinley Springs 2020
Chad’s latest Cabernet project is about a savvy a play as I’ve seen from him and that’s saying a lot. He found a few choice plots in the Horse Heaven Hills that really deliver juicy, powerful, full-bodied Cabernets with great acidic backbones that make it an exceptional choice with a lot of different foods. But then you factor in his winemaking expertise and you really his newest project is a about another near half off stunner that is the epitome of why everyone loves the Chad wines.
Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2020
Most folks at Nicholas Wines know Castello di Volpaia as the winery responsible for the highest ever rated Chianti Riserva in the history of Wine Spectator, despite a rather modest price tag. It just speaks to the exceptional quality of this producer and how they can out-class all their neighbors, even the folks at $350+/bottle. Their regular Chianti Classico is perhaps the best value in Chianti each year, and in 2020 this is no exception. We didn’t get enough of this gem thanks to a big 93-point score from Suckling and a 92-point score from Wine Spectator that accompanied it on release. But I got enough to include it today. This is a ‘must-have’ bottle come Thanksgiving time.
Pierre Sparr Crement d’Alsace Brut Rose N.V.
This is an awesome pink Sparkler that absolutely jumps out of the glass. A Brut made from 100% Pinot Noir, it’s a gorgeous salmon hue with fresh aromas of strawberry and raspberry. On the palate, it’s round and fruity with hints of peach. The flavors are intense, with lively acidity framed by a well-made structure and delicate bubbles. The finish is smooth, clean and dry, making it a great sparkler to pair with food, but there’s so much personality here – it can easily stand alone as well.

95 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Wine Spectator – 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
100 Pts, International Wine Report – 98 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 98 Pts, James Suckling
“The 2020 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly sensational. It begins with striking aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries and dark plums that are laced with fresh spring florals, mocha, sweet exotic spices, graphite and gravel nuances all taking shape. The palate is full-bodied and displays a remarkable combination of power and elegance throughout. This is beautifully structured and extremely expressive, as it possesses outstanding depth and concentration all they way through the long, finessed finish. Year after year, the Columbia Valley Cabernet is one of the most impressive wines, and there is no exception here, as it combines all the wonderful qualities of the 2020 vintage from Quilceda Creek into one expression. This is fantastic already and readers will be in for a real treat, as this simply marvelous wine will continue to deliver the goods for years to come.”
