In 1970, Enrique Forner founded Marqués de Cáceres Unión, a historic alliance of growers in the village of Cenicero in the Rioja Alta subregion of Rioja. The pioneering Forner family has been devoted to the wine trade for five generations and has been a major player since they first started late in the 19th century.
Their search for the best vine growers and vineyards in Rioja and the introduction of a Bordeaux concept revolutionized the production and business model of the entire region. They work with one single objective: producing the highest quality wines. Today this obsession continues to be the driving force of Cristina Forner, the fifth generation of this distinguished wine family.
Cristina’s Brut Cava is a sneaky great value. It has a ton of energy and lift from the tiny bubbles, leading with a bouquet of citrus fruits and notes of freshly baked brioche. The mouth is fun and round with great balance, harmony and structure. I’m not sure you’re going to find much better value than this one.

“Blending 50% Xarel·lo, 30% Macabeo, and 20% Parellada from 25-plus-year-old high-elevation vines makes for an extroverted sparkler. A nose of croissant and lemon oil leads to flavors of lemon pudding, candle wax, and white flowers. Lively and focused.”

This champagne is so good, it’s often a staple on the wine lists of Michelin two and three star restaurants. It offers elegant aromatics, pristine fruit and the crisp, mineral finish that screams for food. We loved it so much, we asked Jacques Diebolt to bottle a special cuveé for the restaurant– and he happily agreed, but unfortunately it sold out like hot cakes. No matter, here is old faithful. Just as delicious and memorable as I remember it.
From Soave Classico’s most privileged volcanic-limestone hillsides, comes a brand new release that is going to win a lot of people over. This is a high-tone northern Italian white bursting with white flowers, honeysuckle and stone fruits. Crisp and clean, finishing juicy and surprisingly long. A perfect complement to all kinds of seafood dishes, summer vegetables, poultry and light cheeses. There is no old-vine, small lot Pinot Grigio that exists for anywhere near the price of this one.

This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
94 Points, James Suckling
This one has always been my go-to for entertaining – I just hand everyone a glass upon arrival and people are always thrilled. The new batch of 2020 Barmes Cremant has just landed – and it’s so dang good. So much freshness and energy, with a beautiful nose of green apple and Anjou pear with tinges of honey, white nuts and white flowers. The fruit is near perfect, richly concentrated with a creamy texture. The finish is endless, with the tiniest of bubbles, with a zippy acidity that makes it perfect with seafood.
