The Cotes Catalanes Blanc is made from a wonderful Parcel that the husband and wife found that was particularly special. A perfect block of Roussillon that reminded Marjorie a lot of Côte-Rôtie and was planted on a vein of quartz: a white-soil hill surrounded by black schists. The lieu-dit was called Roc Blanc (French for « white rock ») due to this picturesque, natural vein of quartz.
“Le Roc des Anges” stemmed from this duality.
The two farm their vineyard biodynamically, which encourages deep root penetration, and the cultivation of a high leaf canopy allows for great photosynthesis and good shade for the grapes. Every grape at Roc des Anges is picked by hand, at the coolest parts of the day, and are kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing that great finesse and freshness in every wine. The wines are incredible fresh, with great fruit, vibrant minerality and a beautiful bouquet of aromas. Every year, we are excited to see what Marjorie and Stéphane have in store for us.

Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. There’s a consistency there and consumers know they can count on a Riesling that is aromatic, fruity, elegant, clean and vibrant. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the widely praised 2021 vintage where quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
The newly released Riesling Feinherb 2021 is a lively, juicy wine with an elegant bouquet of minerals, wet stone and ripe fruit. On the palate, the wine’s slight off-dry component is beautifully balanced by the steely acidity typical of the Mosel. Because this is freshly released, the fruit is vibrant and succulent and it comes in somewhere between off-dry and semi-sweet. It’s a great example of Riesling, especially at the price.
It’s an electric white Burgundy, with a limestone-laced aromatic profile of green apple, pear and hazelnut. Refined and high-toned, the pure, delicious fruit that is a hallmark of this terrific vintage, finishes long and fresh, with a mile-long mineral streak.
