It always comes in a great package, and it’s a serious Provencal Rose and then some, but I’ve always been skeptical. I figured it was a marketing ploy. Brangelina’s Rose. But after tasting this year’s, I decided to dig a little bit deeper and see what was underneath the pretty label.
Miraval Rose is made by none other than superstar winemaker Marc Perrin, who has countless times turned the wine world on its head with his 100-point Chateauneuf du Papes at Chateau de Beaucastel. But for a few years now, his vibrant, high-toned Provencal Rose has outsold his beloved flagship wines.
I’m guessing it’s a result of being one of the first ever Roses featured on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list. And when Wine Enthusiast reviewed over a thousand wines and declared it one of their Top 3 Provence Wines of the Year, that probably helped. I doubt Brad had much to do with it all.
The wine is drawn off a very special vineyard, tucked away in a private valley on an ancient terrace, planted between 750 and 1150 in elevation. I gotta be honest with you — not many folks in Provence have this kind of asset.
Adding fuel to the fire is the terroir- a chalky, pebbly top soil above precious limestone soil– perfect for a Rose that flashes the kind of minerality only the best French wines can boast.
The 2020 Miraval Provence Rose is a blend of grenache, cinsault and syrah. It’s got a beautiful salmon color, packed with juicy notes of macerated cherries, strawberry currants, citrus and a lemon zest and it flashes that refreshing minerality that has become a Provence signature.

There is an attractive richness to this wine produced by the Perrin family of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is full of ripe red berries mingling with spice and citrus. With a fresh, crisp and textured aftertaste, it is ready to drink.

Pale pink color; silky, dry, and crisp; fresh, lively, and balanced. A nice Provençal wine from a château part owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Blended from estate and non-estate fruit, Miraval’s 2020 Cotes de Provence Rose is a traditional blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle (Vermentino) and Syrah, with a tiny proportion (about 5%) fermented in barrel. Whatever one may think about the movie star connection, there’s no denying the technical expertise the Perrin family brings to the project, with this vintage offering up attractive notions of red berries, tangerine, peach and melon, all layered on a base of crushed stone. It’s medium-bodied and fully dry, with a sense of elegant austerity on the finish.

The 2019 vintage of Château d’Aussières Corbières is a true reflection of its exceptional terroir and meticulous winemaking. This blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan offers a harmonious balance of flavors, with notes of ripe berries, spice, and a hint of earthiness. The wine’s structure is elegant yet powerful, with firm tannins and a long, lingering finish that speaks to its age-worthiness.

There’s a consistency to Pierre Sparr wines that consumers just know they can count on throughout the entire portfolio. The wines deliver aromatics, elegance, clean fruit and are packed with vibrancy. They also happen to be extremely food-friendly, especially in the past few vintages where yields were down but quality rose to an all-time high. This is a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.

“The flagship from this great estate is the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Boisrenard, which is based on 80% Grenache and small doses of 17 other varieties. This deeply hued beauty offers a stunning bouquet of blackberries, scorched earth, licorice, ground pepper, and sappy garrigue. I always find a Burgundian-like texture on this wine, and the 2020 is no exception – this is one to put into a blind tasting of Grand Cru Red Burgundies and shock your friends. Medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, with grippy, sappy tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish, it’s pure class all the way. It’s going to need at least 4-6 years of bottle age, but this is a wine you don’t want to miss, and one of the finest wines I’ve tasted from this estate.” -Jeb Dunnuck
