The estate, which sits directly adjacent to the vineyards of Soldera, has been causing quite a stir lately, with the 95-point score hardly a fluke. In fact, several publications have finally taken notice in addition to the Wine Advocate with James Suckling and Antonio Galloni of Vinous now calling on the estate. Seems like they’re doing something right.
James Suckling highlighted it in his great under $25 Tuscan wines and now Wine Enthusiast has chimed in, giving this “full bodied” 2020 Rosso di Montalcino a 92-point score.
Today’s Rosso is one of the few really worthy of the title ‘baby brunello’ being several notches above most. The 2020 Caprili Rosso di Montalcino is cut from limestone and rocky soil giving it an earthy complexity and sophistication. From there, it spent 12 months in neutral Slovanian oak where it was fermented using native yeasts ala old school Brunello. It’s a terrific example for its category… easily one of the top RdMs you’re going to find.

This savory young red showcases ripe black cherry and black plum flavors while flashes of spice and earthy truffle tones lend depth. It’s full-bodied, with taut, close-grained tannins that lend a firm structure. Drink through 2026.

As soon as you take the first sip on this one, you can easily see the Burgundian connection. Doglia’s Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato 2022 is medium bodied with scents of fresh cut lavender. On the palate, it’s an absolute delight, full of flavor but with an acid backbone that make it perfect to pair with almost any cuisine. Notes of wild fruits and a touch of pepper are just so good. This is a silky smooth, delicious bottle of wine.
This one comes from very old vines in eight different lieux-dits, with the largest portion coming from Le Fourneau. Harvest is all by hand, and this wine sees 18 months in barrels with only 10% new oak. Clement (rightfully) believes that keeping the oak primarily neutral here brings out the most authentic and intense expression of his Pinot Noirs. Take a sip or two of this and you will know exactly what I mean.
At J Vineyards, Nicole is nothing short of a magician, making 30 different skus or more each vintage between her Pinots, Chardonnays, and Sparkling wines. For the vineyard’s flagship Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, up to 100 individual small lots are combined to make this great wine. Somehow, the blend is effortless–a quintessential RRV Pinot that has those soaring aromatics, bright red fruits, clove, and nutmeg spice with perfect balance.

Far Niente’s beloved Napa Valley Cabernet comes from a who’s who of the best vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley. It’s a seamless Cabernet blend sourced from Oakville, Stag’s Leap, Diamond Mountain, St. Helena, Calistoga, Oak Knoll and the winery’s estate fruit in Yountville. The 2021 vintage is a particular high note – it’s a must-have for Big Red, Napa and Cabernet lovers.
