Louis Boillot Gevrey Chambertin 2021

This one comes from very old vines in eight different lieux-dits, with the largest portion coming from Le Fourneau. Harvest is all by hand, and this wine sees 18 months in barrels with only 10% new oak. Clement (rightfully) believes that keeping the oak primarily neutral here brings out the most authentic and intense expression of his Pinot Noirs. With Clement, the Boillot future is so stinking bright. The sky is the limit here.

The incredible powerhouse partnership that is Louis Boillot and Ghislaine Barthod has blossomed over the past few decades, and has never been stronger thanks to the true fruit of their labor, their superstar son.

The couple owns some of the most sought-after vineyards in all of Burgundy. Ghislaine owns vineyards all in Chambolle-Musigny – some with vines nearly 100 years old. Louis has parcels in nearly a dozen communes, stretched all the way from the north, through Gevrey-Chambertin, Volnay, and now including holdings in Beaujolais.

At some point, their son Clement will likely own the most impressive collection of real estate in the entirety of Burgundy. But for now, he toils away making some of the world’s most sought after Burgundies. This is the very first time I’ve been able to offer up the family’s Gevrey-Chambertin. It’s one of the very best G-C’s you’re going to find, especially in a 2021 vintage where crops were thin throughout Burgundy.
