A massive and vibrant Super Tuscan wine with beautiful structure and depth. This is a very big boy, but it can still dance. From owner, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini (Caparzo/Altesino) and superstar winemaker Massimo Bracalente comes a full-bodied Sangiovese dominant blend that gets spiciness and richness from the Syrah component. The result is a rich, layered treat that hits you in waves and leaves a delicious aftertaste that makes this one hard to put down. For California Cab fans, and Big Italian Red lovers alike, this is one that everyone will agree on– it’s class is on full-display especially given the modest price tag.
Winemaker Marjorie Gallet’s Effet Papillon Rouge is a terrific blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignane, harvested from the iron rich soil just outside of Rivesaltes at the base of Pyrenees. This one is a vibrant wine, with aromas of wild black raspberries and sweet spices. The mid palate is rich and velvety, with a core of sweet black fruit that finishes fresh, long and silky. At the price, it’s a no-brainer case buy.
The vines from which the 2019 “Les Galets de la Berthaude” draws its grapes are quite old – the average being 60 years old – with many well over one hundred years old. This year’s 2019 “Les Galets de la Berthaude” is made in the style the Nicholas Wines buyers love best; quite simply 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 100% delicious. This is a racy, structured and elegant CdP with the bones to age very nicely for the next decade and a half.

Standing up to a rack of BBQ ribs is no easy task, but a big yet easy drinking red wine courtesy of superstar winemaker Pete Stolpman always does the trick. His 2019 La Cuadrilla is a Châteauneuf-styled southern Rhone blend that is predominantly Syrah and absolutely delicious. Fresh, vibrant red fruits that taste silky, with great structure and length, this is always one of my favorites. The profits from the wine go directly to the crew who pick the grapes and make it all happen.
