Since its foundation in 1729, Ruinart is the first established House of Champagne and has taken immense pride in the excellence of its cuvées. Every year the Brut and Blanc de Blancs are excellent, but my soft spot is for the electric Champagne Rose.
This astonishing blend of forty to fifty crus combines the freshness of chardonnay with the fruitiness of pinot noir, yielding a versatile and structured rosé, characterized by notes of exotic fruits. It also happens to be the first Champagne Rose ever made in 1764.
It is a blend of both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that have been aged between two and three years. The blend is seamless and tantalizing with no shortage of flavors and aromas. Simplicity and complexity are combined on the palate of this cuvée where freshness is abundant and the wine boasts a ton of structure while still achieving a round, full-bodied mouthfeel.

A gorgeous rosé in a rich, vinous style, this shows a satiny mousse and well-honed acidity, which buoy a detailed range of macerated raspberry fruit, dried apricot, grated ginger, graphite and chopped roasted almond flavors. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now through 2025.

Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.

At J Vineyards, Nicole is nothing short of a magician, making 30 different skus or more each vintage between her Pinots, Chardonnays, and Sparkling wines. For the vineyard’s flagship Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, up to 100 individual small lots are combined to make this great wine. Somehow, the blend is effortless–a quintessential RRV Pinot that has those soaring aromatics, bright red fruits, clove, and nutmeg spice with perfect balance.
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
