They are a fourth generation winemaking family, but it’s the current generation that has put the entire wine world on notice. A few years back, the preeminent Italian wine critic, Antonio Galloni declared, “Elvio Cogno is one of the hottest wineries in Piedmont right now. Proprietors Nadia Cogno and Valter Fissore have been on a tear of late, and show no signs whatsoever of slowing down.” Huge praise, but it’s proven again and again to be true.
Last year, the Cogno’s received two perfect 100-point reviews. The first came courtesy of Wine & Spirits for the 2016 Elvio Cogno “Bricco Pernice” Barolo, a usually drop-dead gorgeous wine that was carved off their five-acre plot in the Ravera Cru.
Last month, the Cognos once again saw one of their wines on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List, a feat they’ve accomplished countless times now yet it still remains incredibly impressive and well deserved.

92 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
This is a beautiful wine that is bright, punchy, tart, lively and fruity all at once. The Elvio Cogno 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli (with 18,000 bottles made) does its best to satisfy your easy-drinking needs. The wine concludes with an elegant dusting of crushed stone. You get terrific value with this vintage of Montegrilli.

It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
94 Points, Tasting Panel
This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
