Situated just outside of Bue, Christian Thirot-Fournier, along with his wife and daughter tend just 3 hectares of Pinot Noir. It’s a true family affair, from vine to bottle.
The 2020 Vieux Pruniers Sancerre Rosé a stunner, with crisp acidity, tight minerality, and a beautiful zesty mouth leading to a refreshing finish.
Very little Vieux Pruniers Sancerre Rosé makes it into the US and what does always sells out in a few days. I don’t expect this year will be any different.

At J Vineyards, Nicole is nothing short of a magician, making 30 different skus or more each vintage between her Pinots, Chardonnays, and Sparkling wines. For the vineyard’s flagship Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, up to 100 individual small lots are combined to make this great wine. Somehow, the blend is effortless–a quintessential RRV Pinot that has those soaring aromatics, bright red fruits, clove, and nutmeg spice with perfect balance.

The oft 100-point winemaker, Jayson Woodbridge had this to say when tasting his 2021 ‘Stargazing’ Sonoma Pinot: “The wine is vibrant and complex with subtle dark fruits and berries, grandmother’s cherry pie, minerals, and a slight touch of rain-soaked earth, intertwined with a balance and very pleasing easy-going luxury. Should have been priced higher but what the hell.” I have no doubt this clerical error will be addressed in the vintages moving forward. But for now, this is a cult Pinot for under $100/bottle.
The wine is so dang good, nearly every single one of my staff tried to take the sample bottle home when it was brought into the restaurant. It’s just so juicy, lively and pure. Even without the score, this is a total layup. This is a gorgeous French Rosé at an absurd price. One of the absolute best quality-to-price ratio offers of the year, every single year… no questions asked.
Recently Wolffer Estate has expanded their famous Rose line to now include a Cotes de Provence Rose. For my money, it’s hands down a better bottling – an energetic and super fresh pink wine created from the French staple Rose grapes of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah as opposed to the Long Island version that has a whole lot of varietals mixed in. It’s bright and balanced and the perfect treat for the pool or beach as the weather warms.
