Here’s the real story – far too strange to be fiction. Vincent’s Father – like all the grape farmers of the small village of Thesee-La-Romaine, did as they had always done. They tried to get as much fruit as possible out of their vines to take down the village cooperative where all the grapes were sold by the kilo.
But young Vincent had a different idea. Having just returned home from a fresh stint at one of the top wineries of Chinon, Ricard knew two things. First – that the flint-rich soil had the potential to craft world-class Sauvignon Blanc and second – that the only way to do that was to drastically change the way they were farming.
So that first year Vincent took 10% of the vineyard – and as the old men of the village watched and laughed – Vincent went through the vines by hand, cutting vines and dropping fruit ($$$) right on to the ground. He bottled it under the family name in lieu of taking it down to the village cooperative. It was all fun and games until the wine was finally finished and the old men finally got to taste the wine.
It was clear that the wine was sublime and completely out of this world – easily competing with the wines of Sancerre. So the old men sprang to action and they sued Vincent for making wine ‘too good’ or out of type for the region.
Vincent’s a way better guy than I am. He eventually won his case and instead of running the other family’s out of business, he took over the village cooperative and taught the entire village how to grow for quality instead of quantity. This is easily one of the best white wine values in the world.

Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
