That price is not a misprint. As the new vintage comes in, I locked into an amazing price on the perfect spring wine. But unfortunately, with big press and such a small price tag, this one is destined to sell out in a day or two. An Editors’ Choice from Wine Enthusiast, along with rave reviews from Vinous and Wine Spectator and all for a wine that can be had today for less than $9/bottle. Hurry up on this one!
Umani Ronchi is starting to make a name for themselves amongst the Nicholas Wines faithful. There’s good reason for that. They make flat out delicious, every-day drinking wine, which stylistically pairs well with most kinds of cooking. These wines are ridiculously well-priced and consistently wow critics.
Eric Guido of Vinous went on a huge long rant about how much he loved Umani Ronchi, saying that although they manage more than 210 hectares of vines between Marche and Abruzzo, they still “manage to deliver one of the most balanced and quality-driven portfolios within the two regions.”
Today’s beauty is a Castello di Jesi Verdicchio from one of the most famous and historic Marche appellations. The Verdicchios here are absolutely zipped up, electric white wines that are so good, that legend even has it that the troops of the King of the Visigoths drank barrels of Verdicchio to maintain their strength before marching to sack Rome!
This one dazzles. Vinous called out the delicious tropical notes, “hints of papaya and young mango” and even called this knockout every day drinker, “weightier than anticipated”. Wine Enthusiast in their Editors’ Choice review called it “tangy and fresh”, while Wine Spectator took notice of the notes of “Asian pear and minerality”.

We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.

“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck

This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.
