The newly released 2020 Para Maria de los Tecolotes Rosé (affectionately named after Ruben’s wife and partner, Maria) is once again 100% Syrah, salmon-pink in color, with a great nose of ruby red grapefruit and red apple. Bone-dry and low in alcohol it is a classic Rosé very much like the first one Melissa and I discovered on a trip to the south of France many, many years ago. But this one is probably a little juicier than I ever remember it. Vibrant and roaring out the gates!

Drink with just about anything this spring and summer but if you really want to be reminded of Santa Barbara County’s finest…..just a good juicy burger.
The cuvee is a rather seamless blend with a melody of flavors. There’s cherries, cranberries, and raspberries with some more subtle notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. I think a lot of people are going to like it. It’s very well-balanced and in sync, with juicy, ripe notes, but nothing over the top. It’s still got silky smooth tannins and plenty of grace.
Recently Wolffer Estate has expanded their famous Rose line to now include a Cotes de Provence Rose. For my money, it’s hands down a better bottling – an energetic and super fresh pink wine created from the French staple Rose grapes of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah as opposed to the Long Island version that has a whole lot of varietals mixed in. It’s bright and balanced and the perfect treat for the pool or beach as the weather warms.
We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.
