Round Pond Estate is owned and operated today by the second generation of the MacDonnell family who have built its reputation into a very highly sought-after and respected ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon producer. I tell anybody who is going to Napa that a visit at RP is pretty much a must.
Their family has been growing some of the finest wine grapes in Napa Valley’s acclaimed Rutherford region for over 40 years. Home to world-renowned American vineyards and some of the most coveted Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, Rutherford is widely recognized as one of the great viticultural regions of the world. They have one of the world’s best winemakers in Thomas Rivers Brown on staff and their Cabernets every year are amongst the most distinct and ageworthy representations.
Of course this baby has a lot of life left on it, but the critics have already got a hold and are unanimous about the wine and its potential. As Jeb Dunnuck summed it up pretty perfectly: “the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Louis Bovet showed beautifully, with a sumptuous, full-bodied, textured style carrying lots of darker currants and blue fruits as well as notes of tobacco, sappy herbs, flowers, and earth.”

95 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast
This mineral-driven red tastes of slate and stone, with a generous depth of rich red fruit. The cassis and cherry notes are layered and lengthy on the palate, with a hint of caramel and oak that complement it well.
95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Louis Bovet showed beautifully, with a sumptuous, full-bodied, textured style carrying lots of darker currants and blue fruits as well as notes of tobacco, sappy herbs, flowers, and earth. It’s already drinking beautifully yet has enough tannins to allow it to evolve for 20 years.
94 Points, Wine Spectator
Delivers a solid and frankly ripe beam of cassis and plum sauce flavors, laced with red licorice and flecked with sassafras, all of which drive along nicely through a racy, structured finish underscored by a streak of iron. Offers excellent length. Best from 2023 through 2039.

It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator
92 Points, Wine Spectator – 91 Points, James Suckling
“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
The secret to Philippe’s tightly wound, complex Pinot Noir is a combo of ancient vines, natural farming techniques, and low yields. The wines are built to age, with incredible tension and length. And the secret to me securing his other-wordly 2017 old-vine Gevry-Chambertin can be chalked up to a great relationship and over a decade supporting superior Burgundian winemaking. The wine is scary good. The nose is wild, filled with spiced dark raspberries, red flowers, and baking spices. The palate is elegant and racy, with a dynamic tension that runs right through its minute-long finish. This is a high-toned, wound-up Pinot, that is starting to hit its prime and is really turning out to be a ‘must-have’ for true Burgundy lovers.
