An artist by birth (and by training) Bibi was literally sitting on a gold mine. Around his house grew some of the most mature Sangiovese vineyards (he calls them gardens) in the country – a few parcels a staggering 85 years old now. With contracts about to expire, Bibi had to decide whether to renew or take them over. Luckily, he chose the latter. Then he made an even better decision when he brought in (now rockstar) winemaker – Antinori Antonini.
The two set out to create the very best expression of the vineyards they possibly could. The bottling would be called Testamatta and would be 100% garden Sangiovese – which was not allowed by the powers that be. Nonetheless, Bibi forged ahead and within 8 short years he had produced an absolute juggernaut – with his 2008 receiving 98 points from James Suckling of the Wine Spectator – outpointing many of the top wines in the country.
But Mr. Suckling went a step further and called Testamatta “one of my 12 Best Collectible Wines of Tuscany”. The 2013 Testamatta is striking and worthy of the top cellars in the country. The nose is an aromatic fireworks show that gives way to flavors of bright red fruits, accompanied by a full body and finish that seemingly goes on forever.
Today we’ve got a mere 42 bottles of the Testamatta 2013, up for grabs, while they last. 97 points from James Suckling. $124 on release. 36% OFF the release price today on Nicholas Wines.

Very aromatic and exciting with citrus rind, plums, cedar and rose petals. Full body, fine and silky tannins and a long and beautiful finish. Love the persistence and intensity.

With seemingly infinite access to some of the absolute very best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.) The brand new 2021 edition is a beauty – deeply concentrated, rich and a truly show stopping Cabernet. It’s a dark, hedonistic blend that combines elegance with power and pairs the two together effortlessly.
It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.

Damien has crafted a delicious Médoc, full of character with dense black currant and cherry fruit, cedar, tobacco and wonderful complexity. It’s silky complexion is what pushes it over the edge (and, of course, the price!) It doesn’t hurt that it comes from a 95-point Left Bank vintage that the Wine Advocate declared, “outstanding.”
