Of the four levels of Tempranillo, the Gran Reserva is the top shelf of Rioja and turns out the most complex, age-worthy wines in all of Spain. It’s required that these wines be composed of only the very best grapes of the vintage, and then aged two years in oak and another three in bottle. Just that alone will give you big, bold tannic wines that can match up with the depth and age-worthiness of Napa Cabs as much as five times the price tag.
But sometimes, the Bodega will go a step further – like they did here at Vinedos de Paganos. Drawn entirely from a single vineyard, the Puntido continued to just get better in the bottle, year after year, after year. Knowing exactly what they had in hand, the winery just waited. First three additional years. Then two more before sending it off this past summer to Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate where it was absolutely raved about and given a 96 point score – the highest of the entire vintage.
While some of the other wines from this classic vintage are mature – the El Puntido is only now starting to hit its stride. This argues for buying at least two to four bottles. One for now, just to see how it’s doing and a few to set aside for the years to come. For serious wine collectors, this shouldn’t be missed.

This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
