Tommasi is located in Pedemonte village in the heart of Valpolicella Classico region, on a small piece of land in the northwest part of Verona, between the Lessini mountains and their plains near Lake Garda.
This is a dynamite wine from them that is made by refermenting the juice from the Valpolicella on the warm Amarone grape skins, in the typical “Ripasso” method, which imparts a rich character and personality to the wine. The grapes are sourced from three of most prestigious Tommasi vineyards: Conca d’Oro, La Groletta and De Buris.
It’s an attractive blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella and 5% Corvinone. The wine is vinified in stainless steel for about 9 days, then passed through the warm Amarone grape skins for about 12 days. It is then aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels. With a little bit of age already to it, this one is drinking fantastically right now.

93 Points, James Suckling
“An excellent Valpolicella Ripasso that shows a plethora of dried cranberries, strawberries, nutmeg and red licorice. Medium body, but with a serious backbone of juicy tannins and a solid center palate of dried fruit. Lovely acidity drives the finish.”
91 Points, Vinous
“Deeply alluring with dusty purple-tinged florals, sweet spices and black currants. The 2017 Ripasso is silky with cool-toned textures, further accentuated by vibrant acidity. There’s beautiful symmetry and persistence here, coming across as powerful yet remaining energetic throughout.”
90 Points, Decanter
“A breadth of cherries, cooked plums and prunes, off set by the charm of Indian spice and an oaky, tannic core.”

Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
At J Vineyards, Nicole is nothing short of a magician, making 30 different skus or more each vintage between her Pinots, Chardonnays, and Sparkling wines. For the vineyard’s flagship Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, up to 100 individual small lots are combined to make this great wine. Somehow, the blend is effortless–a quintessential RRV Pinot that has those soaring aromatics, bright red fruits, clove, and nutmeg spice with perfect balance.
The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.
95 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Wine Spectator – 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
