Up until a few years ago, this small wonderful producer in Emilia-Romagna (remember Zerbina?) had been making Lambrusco di Sorbara, that most Americans hadn’t heard of nor tried.
As you may know, there are a few Lambrusco types. A lot of you probably think of the hearty, dark colored Lambruscos, the Lambrusco di Grasparossa– but this is something different altogether.
Today’s gem comes from Paltrinieri, who many believe to be the very best producer of Lambrusco di Sorbara. It’s a lighter style than the Grasparossa– bright, floral and expressive with bright acidity, minerality and a crisp, memorable finish.
Up until a few years ago, most wine drinkers hadn’t heard of the fourth generation winemakers the Paltrinieris. But that would all change in 2018. That was the first of three years that the Paltrinieri’s Lambrusco di Sorbara was given an unheard of 95-point score from Wine Enthusiast for just a $20/btl of wine and an inclusion towards the top of their Top 100 Wines of the Year list.
The new release promises to be the best yet, seeing as it’s already the first Paltrinieri Lambrusco to have earned an Editors’ Choice designate along with its shiny 95-point score. But seeing as it earned slightly higher praise than its predecessors, it’s fair to question whether this years version will grace the Top 10 in the Wine of the Year charts.

95 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast
One of the best Lambruscos out there, this delicious, vibrant wine opens with enticing scents of wild red berry, yellow stone fruit, citrus blossom and a yeasty, comforting whiff of pastry dough. Made by carrying out the secondary fermentation in the bottle, the dry, delicious palate delivers pink grapefruit, crushed strawberry and tangerine alongside crisp acidity and a saline note.

The wine is so dang good, nearly every single one of my staff tried to take the sample bottle home when it was brought into the restaurant. It’s just so juicy, lively and pure. Even without the score, this is a total layup. This is a gorgeous French Rosé at an absurd price. One of the absolute best quality-to-price ratio offers of the year, every single year… no questions asked.
The just released 2023 Crochet Sancerre Rosé is drawn from the high elevations of Janine and Teddy Crochet’s Pinot Noir vines in the village of Bué. The conditions are perfect for crisp, delicious Sancerre Rosé. Salmon-pink in color with a pretty nose featuring aromas of roses, orange peel and Bing cherry notes. This is as well-balanced as always with terrific fruit flavors of citrus and red berries with racy a high-toned finish.

The winery made famous by Brad Pitt and Angelina is more famous in the wine world for their fleet of top Provencal Roses made by none other than superstar winemaker Marc Perrin, who has countless times turned the wine world on its head with his 100-point Chateauneuf du Papes at Chateau de Beaucastel. His 2022 Miraval Rose has a great salmon color with juicy notes of macerated cherries, strawberry currants, citrus and a lemon zest. It flashes that refreshing minerality that has become a Provence signature but crafted at 1100 ft above sea level, its crispness and vibrancy is unparalleled.

This is a Nicholas Faithful favorite. Even though it’s technically a non-vintage it was last disgorged in the 2020 vintage. La Cravantine, is a sparkling rosé of 100% Cabernet Franc, bone-dry, super fresh and with bubbles so tiny and fine, it puts most “real” Champagne to shame. Appealing strawberry and mineral scents are encased in a firm structure with a dry and spicy quality in the palate. This wine is incredibly versatile – perfect with just about any fish, fried food, or do like I do and enjoy it on it’s own.
