While Ormanni makes a number of wines– the thing they do best is make Sangiovese. Every year, their Chianti Classico, Riserva and Gran Selezione earn some big time scores. Farming organically and using both cement and steel for fermenting, the winery takes their time with aging, with the wines eventually being switched to casks. These make for some crazy good, age-worthy wines.
But that’s not what I’m talking about today; I’m all about value! Luckily, like most great producers, at Ormanni, they make both.
The Ormanni Chianti DOCG is a sleek, juicy Sangiovese made from grapes along the border of that historic Black Rooster Chianti area. It’s a versatile, delicious little number that absolutely shines at the dinner table.
But unlike most Ormanni wines that start to come to life after a couple of years as a result of their careful aging, the Chainti is meant to be drank in its youth- roaring right out the gates with juicy cherry and strawberry notes, aided by a hint of baking spice, earth and touch of rusticity.

The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.

This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
