I was poured the family’s 2019 Sauvignon Blanc at lunch recently and it stole the show. I couldn’t believe it was a 2019 because it still had great acidity and so much life in it. It was delicious, crisp and even had a creamy finish like it was aged in oak.
I actually have met Dave a few times, so I asked him ‘between him and me’ if this saw oak at some point before bottling. But the secret I got was not at all what I was expecting. Dave chuckled and said he got that question a lot. “I don’t tell many people the real secret, which is that we add a little late harvest Sauvignon Blanc to the blend.” It adds a little bit to the roundness and richness, while still letting the fruit speak for itself. It even adds some ageability for the wine. It’s a pretty good trick.
Critics clearly agreed. They gave this sensational Napa Valley value double 90-point reviews (91 for Suckling) though Jeb probably summed it up best when he capped his review of the wine by declaring it, “about as drinkable as they come.”

91 Points, James Suckling
Pretty aromas of green apple, honeydew, lime curd and zest. It’s medium-bodied with tangy acidity and a gently waxy texture. Flint on the finish.
90 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Pretty sugared lime and light white peach notes emerge from the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, a medium-bodied, lightly textured, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc that’s about as drinkable as they come.

It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
Glistening pale yellow-green to the rim, infused with mouth-watering aromas of ripe apple, pear and quince, and crushed almonds with honey and rich creamy middle and a fantastic rush of acidity and minerality that are present throughout. A calling card of Bonhomme’s Vire-Clesse, if you closed your eyes and took a sip, it would have you convinced you were drinking Meursault at least a 3x price tag.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
