Armed with three fabulous Cru vineyards, Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda, the former is considered by most to be the crown jewel vineyard of Serralunga. Together, the three vineyards are like the Spanish Armada, consistently producing some of the best Barolo in single-vineyard bottlings and blends like today’s.
Massolino is a treasure. They’re one of the few wineries that can say they have almost 30(!) wines on Wine Spectator’s annual ‘Top 100 Wines of the Year’ list, including last year’s vintage, the 2016 which I offered a few weeks before its #7 placement. As you could imagine, that made getting an allocation this year infinitely more difficult, but I was able to do so if I took it right away before Wine Spectator scores it.
But after tasting a bottle it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made in a while. This wine is so good already, and it’s only in the top of the first inning in terms of what is left to come. I figured I’d lock into everything I could and the scores would come. As it turns out, they already have.
Though Wine Spectator has yet to chime in, Wine Enthusiast has already equaled last year’s 95-point score for the Barolo and given it the prestigious “Editors’ Choice” tag. I’m sure that means they’ll be adding to their “Top 100 Wines of the Year” trophy case, but the wine will be long gone by then.

Camphor, wild berry, new leather and blue flower aromas emerge on the nose of this savory wine. Full-bodied and delicious, the structured palate delivers succulent Marasca cherry, baking spice and a hint of menthol alongside firm, refined tannins. This is an incredible performance for what is the firm’s entry-level Barolo.

It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.
Lydia Cornu’s newly released Haut-Côtes-du-Beaune is quintessential Red Burgundy. It’s made from super old vines and a low yield, with no new oak in the aging process. The wine is an absolute joy to drink– a bowl full of berries on the nose, high-toned, racy fruit in the mid palate with the structure and length that is the hallmark of Cornu-Camus wines. It’s delicious now and will be delicious in a decade. It’s the kind of Red Burgundy value that is ridiculous hard to match.

This wine continues to get mentioned amongst the Super Tuscan elite, Ornellaia and Sassacaia – and in a lot of the instances, people are preferring the wines of the “little guy”, Grattamacco. Their 2018 Bolgheri Superiore is the big brother of the wine that first Nicholas Wines by storm, and became our all-time Super Tuscan best seller. This is armed with two 96-point reviews from both Wine & Spirits and Parker’s Wine Advocate. The latter called the wine, “finely nuanced” as well as “quite elegant and crisp.”
As soon as you take the first sip on this one, you can easily see the Burgundian connection. Doglia’s Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato 2022 is medium bodied with scents of fresh cut lavender. On the palate, it’s an absolute delight, full of flavor but with an acid backbone that make it perfect to pair with almost any cuisine. Notes of wild fruits and a touch of pepper are just so good. This is a silky smooth, delicious bottle of wine.
