When it comes to the best winemaking projects in the country, you’d be remiss if you didn’t mention the Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman connection.
Individually, the two have a resume as impressive as anyone in their field. Rajat Parr is a world famous sommelier and James beard winning author who has won pretty much every award in the business. He was a disciple of Larry Stones and became the wine director at Rubicon, as well as RN74, Michael Mina restaurants to name a few. Sashi is a former chef turned winemaker who helped make some of the best wines in Santa Barbara for over 10 years. He first did it with the wizard Adam Tolmach at Ojai and then later with Pete Stolpman at Stolpman Vineyards.
But when these two stars collided in 2010, they came up with the idea for Sandhi – a project to unlock the next level of California winemaking with the help of their unique backgrounds. The concept is simple: small production wines only focusing on the best vineyards of Sta. Rita Hills. The two would also combine to create Evening Land in Oregon – a project that furthered their fame and put Seven Springs Vineyard and these two stars to the national spotlight.
At this point, both Sandhi and Evening Land have firmly etched their names amongst the elite in both Southern California and Oregon, a feat that’s not completely unheard of with Tony Soter paving that way, but Tony didn’t balance both like these rock stars do!

96 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2-3 years in bottle.

It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
