Antonio Galloni’s Vinous said, “It’s hard not be a huge fan of Galardi, whose Terre di Lavoro wine has long been one of the quality benchmarks of Campania. Though in some years I have found the blend to remind me only distantly of its 80 percent Aglianico and 20 percent Piedirosso mix, there’s no arguing with the fleshy, ripe, ageworthy aromas and flavors this very famous wine always exudes. While I was disappointed by the 2014 (a rainy, difficult year), the Terre di Lavoro 2013 is an epic wine in the making.”
This small project was hatched back in the early 1990’s by a group of cousins with green thumbs. They wanted to make a wine off their family’s minute 0.5 hectare plot of land on Roccamonfina, an extinct volcano Northwest of Taurasi.
They really felt like had hidden treasure under them in the unique soil, so they enlisted the advice of Italy’s most famous and respected winemaking consultant, Riccardo Cotarella. So enamored with what he saw, he not only agreed they had something truly special, but he even agreed to be the winemaker for a small fee – right there on the spot. And just like that, what may have seemed like a long shot had the blessing of an icon.
Over the next 30 years, the tiny estate has produced an enormous reputation despite their miniscule production. Results have been absolutely stunning. Every year, a number of expert reviewers drop big scores on the wine, with the slowly aging Aglianco produced off this tiny vineyard, amongst the most interesting wines made anywhere.

94+ Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Fattoria Galardi and consulting enologist Riccardo Cotarella have conspired to create a beautiful wine in this classic vintage. The 2013 Terra di Lavoro is a headline bottling on the Campania winescape. It has inspired a large generation of enthusiastic younger vintners today, especially in the Roccamonfina subzone—one of the most exciting areas in the bustling and up-and-coming regions of Southern Italy. The effect here is seamless, deep and penetrating with healthy red fruit that is nicely enhanced by spice, leather and campfire ash. The integration and smoothness of the mouthfeel is impressive indeed.
94 Points, Vinous
Good full ruby. Captivating aromas of black cherry, cocoa, graphite and sweet spices, subtle notes of dried flowers, and woodsmoke emerging with air. Sweet, plush and seamless; round and full, but with enticing inner-mouth perfume to the saline red berry, cherry and minerally flavors. Finishes very long and suave, with broad, polished tannins and a repeating graphite nuance. This is a beauty. An 80 percent Aglianico and 20 percent Piedirosso blend.
94 Points, James Suckling
A tangy and fresh Terra di Lavoro with some clove and spice character. Hot stone and ripe fruit here. This is very tight and chewy. Fresh and bright fruit. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a racy finish. The almond, earth and stone undertones are fascinating. This needs two to three years of bottle age. Try after 2018.

This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
The 2021 Napa Valley East side Cuvee is an instant classic. From the first whiff to the moment it hits the lips, its clear that this is a fabulously concentrated, serious wine: black in color, and featuring aromas of cassis, cedar and chocolate-tinged purple fruit. The mouthfeel is plush and voluptuous with a firm, solid finish that speaks to its potential for considerable aging.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.
