Coffee Lane is in a very small but magical nook stretched across a set of ridgetop east-facing plateaus in the Green Valley. Many assume it’s the Goldridge soil there that creates such rich, textured Pinot Noir and that’s true, BUT Coffee Lane also has one of the densest plantings in all of Northern California. Vines here are forced to dig deep and stay compact. Their clusters are small and tight and the resulting wine incredibly concentrated.
Coffee Lane is part of a quartet of vineyard parcels that stretch across a set of ridgetop east-facing plateaus in the Green Valley west of Highway 116. With its classic Goldridge soil, this particular parcel is ideal for growing naturally rich, beautifully textured Pinot Noir.
The vineyard’s extremely high density planting – 3,630 vines per acre, among the most densely planted vineyards in Northern California – ensures the vines stay small, their roots deep, their clusters small and incredibly concentrated and vibrant.

The 2020 Pinot Noir DuMOL Estate Vineyard is resinous with pine, forested earth, and kirsch. The palate has another gear of intensity and is full with ripe tannins and a long finish. The palate gives way to cherry pit, rocky soil, and spice. Hold for a few years and drink over the following 15 or more years.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2020 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard is fragrant and floral, with blueberry, cranberry and pomegranate fruit and wafts of dried violet and tangerine peel. The medium-bodied palate is surprisingly concentrated with ripe, fragrant fruit. It has a grainy, refreshing frame and a long finish loaded with floral perfume. So expressive!

I’ve forewarned Nicholas Wines customers that the 2022 vintage in Burgundy appears to be outstanding. As such, I’ve been stocking up on as much as I can. This one though is a Saturday Nighter – a special wine for sure. It comes from Fourchaume (one of the most noted Chablis 1ers crus) and vineyards situated on long slopes facing the sunrise, which allow for rapid soil warm up – a huge key to making deep, concentrated Chablis. Here the soils are predominantly brown clay and only slightly stony. Most of them are fairly deep and well-draining. It’s one of those most special white wine locations in all of Burgundy. This is a classic.

“Soaring lemon cream aromatics accented by notes of sea spray, lemongrass and beeswax mark this coastal Chardonnay from Flowers on the Sonoma Coast. The palate is fresh and linear. Oyster shell salinity, bee pollen and grilled lemon make for a savoury balance with delicate crushed chalk minerality.”
One of the best places to look for great Tuesday nighters are the sandy, limestone-laden hills of Asti. And within Asti, there is no white wine calling card that holds a candle to Moscato. Here it is king. Gianni Doglia naturally farms a tiny estate in the picturesque hamlet of Castagnole Lanze. His Moscato is the product of old vines, vinfied without oak to preserve its incredible fruit. This is serious, high-quality and hand-harvested Moscat, that oozes with sweet tropical fruits and a hint of minerality that stays on your tongue with each sip. This is also the perfect wine for anyone searching for a low alcohol option as well.
This one is so fruit friendly and inviting and also the perfect treat for some Italian food or fresh fish. It leads with beautiful notes of stone fruit, lemon, lime, and some acacia flowers. It’s delicate, but still full on the mouth, with good structure, freshness, and intensity.
