I’m sure France has its share of issues with its young people but Olivier Legranger is definitively not part of any problem. Coming out of enology school he went right to work for his uncle, the Châteauneuf master, Xavier Vignon. Judging by the quality of his first few vintages of Domaine du Colibri Ventoux Rouge, Le Petit Tour, Olivier certainly made the most of his internship with his famous uncle.
Olivier purchased 30 acres of old vines of Grenache, Carignane and Cinsault in the winter of 2016. Ideally located halfway between the Alps and the sea, his parcels are on the western face of Mount Ventoux. The vines are old, rooted in limestone and the constant winds of the mistral keep the vines free of bugs, mold and disease without the use of chemicals.
Olivier’s second vintage is a marvel in the juicy, Tuesday night, bang for the buck red category. The wine brightens aromatically, with a bouquet of purple flowers, anise and thyme. It is loaded with red berry fruit yet is fresh and easy to drink; those limestone soils give great length and vibrancy. It’s a classic house red, working just as well as a roasted chicken as it is with roasted salmon or a burger on the grill. Just like Uncle Xavier, Olivier and his Domaine du Colbri wines punch way above their weight class when it comes to delivering terrific wine at an every day price.
I loaded up, I highly recommend you do the same.

Great as a house wine or enjoyed with roasted chicken, roasted salmon or a burger on the grill.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
With seemingly infinite access to some of the absolute very best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.) The brand new 2021 edition is a beauty – deeply concentrated, rich and a truly show stopping Cabernet. It’s a dark, hedonistic blend that combines elegance with power and pairs the two together effortlessly.
It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
