When we found Chateau Sipian, a jewel of an estate, just north of Saint Estephe and a couple of blocks off the D2, it could not have been a more pleasant surprise. The newly released 2019 is coming out of the gate like an angry bull, showing some much energy and liveliness. There’s probably a reason for that. A number of people have referred to the 2019 as a miracle vintage. Wine Enthusiast raved, “The 2019 Bordeaux vintage is a cross between the openness of 2009, a popular vintage for American wine lovers, and the more structured 2010”. That’s wildly good praise!
This one is flat-out delicious, redolent of black cherries, violets and cedar with a concentrated core of cassis fruit and a mineral finish that goes way longer than any $25 bottle of wine should. The aromatics here soar, redolent of super-ripe red cherry, red plum, and cedar. In the mouth, the fruit is concentrated yet balanced with great tension, with flavors of bright red/purplish berry fruit, wild flowers, savory spice, anise and underbrush all developing in the glass. Silky tannins wrap it all together in a long, fresh finish. Medium in body and all class, the ‘19 Sipian is an absolute winner.

Grilled or roasted beef or lamb will be a great complement but the wine is versatile enough to work with roasted poultry or mushroom dishes.
91 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the 2021 release: “This extremely ripe and bold style of Pinot Noir will please those seeking such lushness. Dark in the glass, it begins with black cherry, toasty caramel and cola milk shake aromas.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2021 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
94 Points, Tasting Panel
This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
It’s no surprise the Wine Advocate has called the Ventoux a “screaming bargain.” Carved off the left bank of the Rhone River, the 2020 Delas Ventoux is a gorgeous medium-bodied wine with wonderful crushed red fruits, a silky mouthfeel, tremendous structure and that signature Rhone spice on the finish. I haven’t had this wine available for a few vintages, but I figure it’s the perfect springtime Red to bring back in the fold!
