Just after retiring in 2013, Pierre Henry Gaugey, the owner of Maison Louis Jadot came calling to his former winemaker of four decades. Despite years at the helm of one of the most influential wine operations in the world, was he up for an even bigger challenge? Move halfway around the world, start a winery from scratch, and attempt to make the best wines of his already storied career. Having previously been to Oregon and enjoyed its beauty, he reluctantly agreed.
In his first vintage in Oregon, Jacques Lardiere didn’t have a winery. Nor a tasting room. No way to sell his wine. It wouldn’t matter. In a 2013 vintage that most of the valley found too challenging, Jacques Lardière produced an absolute juggernaut. Wine Enthusiast declared it a cellar selection, gave it 94 points and wrote that Jacques “didn’t disappoint” with “a magical combination of finesse, silkiness and strident youth”. It sold out on pre-order alone and just like that, a next big Jadot project had been solidified.
Now in his fifth year in Oregon, Jacques’ Resonance project is one of Oregon’s most talked about in the valley. Armed with a brand new state of the art winemaking facility and a breath-taking tasting room, Jacques hasn’t let up – having churned out nearly a dozen 94+ rated wines in just a handful of vintages. This one is no exception.

94 Points, Wine Spectator
Vibrant and impeccably structured, with floral raspberry, crushed stone and savory tea accents that build tension toward refined tannins. Drink now.
92 Points, Wine & Spirits
Bright and red-fruited, this excellent value from Jacques Lardière has a complex set of aromas: forest floor, cranberry, wet stone and beeswax. What starts out a bit distant becomes lively with air, the red-cherry flavors at once luminous and broad.

This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.
The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.
With seemingly infinite access to some of the absolute very best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St Helena, Atlas Peak, Coombsville, Calistoga, and Howell Mountain.) The brand new 2021 edition is a beauty – deeply concentrated, rich and a truly show stopping Cabernet. It’s a dark, hedonistic blend that combines elegance with power and pairs the two together effortlessly.
