This wine especially has gotten so stinking good in recent years under the watchful eye of Aymeric de Gironde. Unlike most ‘second wines’ from big name Bordeaux producers, the Mondot by Troplong Mondot is not a second wine and it wasn’t the ‘second pick barrels’.
It’s simply another wine that the winery makes that they have their own separate program for including designated parcels around the property that perform especially well in this cuvee. It sees 60% wood and 40% stainless steel, which helps maintain a ton of energy which jives perfectly with the Merlot from the limestone soils of Saint-Emilion.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries and raspberries mingled with hints of rose petal and spices, the 2020 Mondot is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a pure, seamless core of vibrant fruit and a long, succulent finish. Derived from Merlot growing on recently acquired vineyards on Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, some 40% of the blend is matured in tank, with the rest in once-used barriques.

All Merlot from limestone soils, brought up in a mix of once-used barrels and tank, the 2020 Mondot by Chateau Mondot sports a dense ruby hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, smoked tobacco and chalky earth. This beauty is full-bodied and has an elegant, seamless mouthfeel and a great finish.
93 Points, Decanter
Love this wine, from a separate plot of vines to the main Troplong Mondot Estate wine. It conveys real personality, majoring on blueberry, raspberry and redcurrant fruits, with a great whack of salinity on the finish. This really comes in strong on slate and salted tang, a delicious second wine with the punch and power of Troplong but showcasing the finesse of limestone soils. Beautiful spice here, real depth with extra creaminess.

Mondot is a 100% Merlot, with 40% aged in tank and the rest in used barrels. It has a deep garnet-purple color and rolls out of the glass with ready-to-go notes of baked black plums, blackberry pie, and spiced raspberries, leading to touches of rose oil, dark chocolate, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers amazing tension with very soft, velvety tannins and bags of juicy black and red berry flavors, finishing long and chalky.
92 Points, Vinous
The 2020 Mondot is an absolute delight. Freshly cut flowers, blood orange, sage, mint and rose petal accents are all laced together in this sensual, mid-weight Saint-Emilion. Mondot is 100% Merlot from limestone soils, which is terrific. Aging is 60% in wood, and 40% in tank which also helps maintain energy.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
WS #4 2019 Wine of the Year, 96 Points, Wine Spectator
2016 was an incredibly special year in Napa Valley. It was essentially the 5th straight vintage of near perfect-conditions and a lot of the big boys produced some of their biggest, most elegant Cabernets to date. Groth’s was still one of the standouts in any group, a deeply concentrated, weighty Cab with sappy, juicy fruit and a carefully intertwined tannic structure. Absolutely gorgeous.
#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator

“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
