Jayson Pahlmeyer started his own winery in the 1980’s as an attempt to create a Mouton-type empire within California. He wisely chose the Atlas Peak AVA as the place to build on his vision.
Pahlmeyer Wines had earned a reputation for their big, bold taste crafted from prestigious mountain fruit in the Napa Valley. With everything going according to plan, Jayson and his winemaking team were ready to look beyond their portfolio and ended up doing so in the 1992 vintage. It was a particularly exceptional year with strong yields, so they decided to launch a second label that would complement the Pahlmeyer portfolio: Jayson by Pahlmeyer.
Today, Jayson offers an expanded portfolio of wines known for their rich, high-quality taste that are an homage to their founder’s huge personality, humor and joy for living.
This is a classic Pahlmeyer Red– big and brawny, but beautifully structured and harmonious. It’s an exciting blend of Cabernet, Malbec, Merlot and Zinfandel, all expertly crafted together. It lends seductive aromas of bright, freshly picked red fruit, along with raspberry, dark plum and black currents. On the palate, a full-bodied burst of red and dark fruits, with hints of caramel and butterscotch that linger through the finish. There’s a lot to like here– velvety and deeply expressive, this is a seamless blend that will leave you begging for another sip.

95 Points, James Suckling
A creamy, full-bodied red with aromas of stewed blackberries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, black tea and sweet tobacco. Ripe, polished tannins support a velvety core of dark fruit and chocolate. Delicious finish. Tight and so together. Drink or hold.
93 Points, Wine Spectator
Powerful and well-structured, with zesty acidity to the dried red berry and currant flavors. Minerally richness lingers into the crunchy finish, with plenty of savoriness. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2025.

#24 Wine of the Year (2022), Wine Spectator
92 Points, Wine Spectator – 91 Points, James Suckling
“This supple red shows a core of cherry and plum fruit allied to olive, juniper and tobacco notes. Delivers well-integrated tannins and acidic structure, lingering nicely on the finish.”
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
94 Points, Tasting Panel
This is a really exciting new release in the collection of single-vineyards from the Wagner Family, and arguably the most interesting one of the bunch. This is the only Pinot Noir in the Caymus collection that has the advantage of being from a natural Pinot Noir haven in the Russian River Valley. Dairyman Vineyard’s proximity to the pacific ocean, with its morning fog and afternoon coastal breezes allows for an even and elongated growing season, with super concentrated and expressive grape clusters that help make this Dijon clone Pinot Noir one that you need.
