Many of our favorite roses have already sold out for the year and for those that remain there are precious few bottles to go around. While today’s offer is likely to sell out in just a few hours. Many of our rose options will be completely depleted for the year by this weekend. But – at least we’re going to go out on a bang!
As Covid thrashed the restaurant business all over the world, many like Restaurant Nicholas, Union Square & the rest of the Danny Meyer restaurants were forced to shut down. Often leaving caches of restaurant exclusive wines unsold.
A few weeks ago, we were able to help out USHG team by selling their go-to by-the-glass Sancerre (24 bucks a glass & worth it!) to Nicholas Wines customers for less than $20 a bottle. Unfortunately, we’re back for round two.
Just as Janine & Teddy Crochet were hitting their stride with the top restaurants in NYC, from Union Square Cafe to The Odeon, this year, there was no home for their inimitable Sancerre Rose to land. Lucky for us, I guess. The 2018 Crochet Sancerre Rose is drawn from the high elevations of Janine and Teddy Chrochet’s Pinot Noir vines in the village of Bue. The conditions are perfect for delicious Sancerre Rose. Salmon-pink in color to the brim. The nose is pretty, featuring aromas of roses and cherry fruits. The wine has terrific fruit, juicy citrus and berries which lead to a racy, high-toned finish that screams for good food.
Bound for a few select NYC wine lists at $96 per bottle. $27 retail. Today – while it lasts just …. $18 per bottle, $16.20 per bottle on cases. That’s no typo.

Fresh off a huge feature in The Wall Street Journal in which they were crowned as the top Prosecco Rose in a lineup of 14, I suspect what was once our little secret will explode. James Suckling also finally got around to tasting it and gave it 91 points. I’d rate it even higher. The 2021 Bisol Jeio Brut Prosecco Rosé is remarkable, and simply put, mouth-wateringly delicious. Inviting aromas of flowers and wild strawberries, with a complex mouthfeel that sings with citrus fruits and creaminess from the tiny crisp bubbles.
Recently Wolffer Estate has expanded their famous Rose line to now include a Cotes de Provence Rose. For my money, it’s hands down a better bottling – an energetic and super fresh pink wine created from the French staple Rose grapes of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah as opposed to the Long Island version that has a whole lot of varietals mixed in. It’s bright and balanced and the perfect treat for the pool or beach as the weather warms.
In the 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin, yields were super low and temperatures were hotter than most Burgundian winemakers are accustomed. Many picked too late when the sugars were high and the fruit really ripe, but that was not the play. Still, Ann remained as cool in those hot temps as she did so many years ago in Napa, concentrating more on acid levels than sugars and picking at just the right time. This wine is absolutely singing – it’s an age-worthy beauty that should be even better in 4-7 years.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
