The younger son of René Lafon, of Domaine Comte-Lafon in Meursault, Bruno grew up in a world of renowned vineyards and spectacular wine. But, on a trip to visit some friends in the south of France, Bruno discovered a sprawling property in the backcountry of the Languedoc that changed his life forever. The soil was incredibly mineral, laden with sandstone and shale. Just 30 km from the Mediterranean, set at 600 ft in elevation and containing some of oldest vines in the region, Bruno saw unlimited potential for making Chateauneuf-du-Pape styled red and white wines. He knew that this unique combination of ancient vines, mineral soil, elevation and proximity to the sea could produce not only fabulously concentrated fruit but aromatically complex and elegant wines that would satisfy any Burgundian.
His rare white wine is a fabulously complex blend of Grenache and Roussanne that brings a unique kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors that are dynamite at any Thanksgiving table. It’s an aromatic fireworks show, just blasting from the glass with anise and mint-scented green apple and white flowers. The Langeudoc Blanc is medium bodied, with a silky mouthfeel and a fine, elegant finish that is both long and mineral.
Like all of Bruno’s wines, it’s a Tuesday nighter with an almost Saturday night-level complexity and for sure, a Saturday night level of distinction and rarity.

Sonoma Coast is well-known as a cool-climate region, perfect for growing Chardonnay. That’s why it’s such a big deal for Route Stock to transition over for the first time from Carnernos over to here. The newly released 2022 beams freshness and comes packed with a delightful energy in its youth. It has a pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and creme brulee with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
Every year, Pierre Sparr’s Alsacian Riesling is one of the top scoring wines in the under $20 category. Pierre Sparr wines are extremely food-friendly especially in the widely praised 2021 vintage where quality rose to an all-time high. It’s a bone-dry beauty with layers of citrus fruits, framed by wet stone and mineral character that adds dimension.
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
