Florent Garaudet started in the tiny Burgundian village of Monthelie in 2008 at the tender age of 23. He was cash-strapped but energized by a passion that only comes when your work is a labor of love. Oh yeah, he also happened to have some of the oldest vines in his region of Burgundy, a distinct advantage when pitching business plans to wine savvy Burgundian bankers. Florent insists with such great raw material to work with, his main job is just to not mess it up. Believe me, he is not messing it up…
Florent’s 2017 Bourgogne Blanc is a spectacular white Burgundy. Sourced from 60 year old vines, the nose is redolent of mineral-laced lemon-lime rind, hazelnut and pear fruit. It’s rich wine, loaded with flavors of citron custard and brioche but perfectly balanced by a fresh, vibrant acidity that makes for a crazy long finish. I’ve tasted countless Puligny and Chassagne Montrachets over the last year that are at least double Florent’s relatively humble Bourgogne price. Just a few match it for elegance, complexity and food friendliness. This opulent yet high toned white Burg, a steal at $35. Don’t miss it, there are a precious few bottles to go around

Incredibly food friendly- pair with fish, roasted chicken and mild cheese.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Points, James Suckling
The winery could never expected their Tuscan Vermentino would become as integral as it has – even 25 years later, it’s still a key piece of the puzzle for Campo Maccione. It’s an unassuming wine with great viscosity and bright, savory flavors that way overdelivers for the price. James Suckling agreed, as did Wine Enthusiast. Suckling gave it a 90 and deemed it “an interesting take on Tuscan Vermentino.” Wine Enthusiast took it up a few notches, attaching a coveted ‘Best Buy’ designate to the wine along with a 92-point review for the wine “with a sophisticated restraint.”
Elena Walch’s newly released 2022 Pinot Bianco continues to be the best example of Pinot Blanc anywhere. She’s the undisputed queen. There’s so much energy in this new release. Super light in color, with a busy nose that boasts ripe aromas of citrus, granny smith apple with a hint of freshly mowed grass. Made entirely in stainless steel, the wine is expressive, fresh and finishes as clean and tight as can be. Definitely will continue the run of 90+ scores once this one is reviewed.
It’s hard to beat a great value white wine and this one is a at least a cut above the rest. One prominant industry insider called the 2022 edition, “the best white wine by any within $20/cs of this price.” It’s super crisp with a great mineral streak, and was carefully picked by hand when the temperature is coolest and is kept cool all the way into the press. From there, the effect of the mineral soil takes over, providing great finesse and freshness in every bottle. This white blend has great backbone and a lot of juicy fruit coming through behind aromas of flowers and stone fruits. At this price, it’s a no brainer.
