Diego Bolognani is one of the most knowledgeable and commited winemakers of Trentino. This Alpine growing region is perfect for Pinot Grigio.
If you are looking for a wine to drink while sitting on the beach or pool this summer, it doesn’t get much better than Bolognani. Diego produces some of the most delicious Pinot Grigios in Italy. It’s handcrafted and is picked up, shipped, stored and delivered at 56 degrees so it tastes in Middletown, NJ overlooking the Navisink exactly how it tastes in Trento overlooking the Dolomite Mountains.
I’ve got two lots of news for you – good and bad. First, the good news is that the 2019 has just arrived and it’s even better than the 2018! A very difficult spring – marked by early hail & and the wettest May in a decade – finally gave way to the perfect summer and a miraculous extended fall (harvest was a full two weeks later than in 2018). So I wine that is always in my arsenal of go-to wines if this year’s Top White Wine of the Summer.
It’s everything you want in Pinot Grigio….aromatic, crisp and clean. Load up on the new vintage and drink it while it’s fresh!

If I had to think of one wine to pair with a hot dog and the works it would probably be Diego Bolognani’s brilliant Pinot Grigio.
During all my years at Jean-Georges, for white Burgundy, nothing sold quite like Etienne Sauzet. The 2018 Bourgogne Blanc from this amazing producer gives readers and drinkers the opportunity to have an incredible white Burgundy from one of its best producers at a modest price. This wine is bristling with energy– rich and racy with a mineral length that not only shows it is one of the best white wines in the world for fine cuisine but also has the legs to gracefully age for a least a decade. Only a few bottles found their way to me, don’t miss em!
Les Noisetiers surrounds the Kistler winery on the Sonoma Coast. The 2018 has a classic balance of layered, juicy fruit and mineral backbone. It is delicious wine, with white flowers and stone fruit aromatics leading to a full bodied, juicy core, loaded with flavors of peach, apricots, pineapple and pear. The finish goes a mile long.

This one is a beauty. A great mix of baked apple, mango and papaya with honeysuckle and vanilla. For a top-notch First Growth Sauternes with 95 points – perfectly cellared and stored for 15 years – price tag seems almost nonsensical. $33/375ml or $29.70/bottle when added to case orders. Who’s ready to drink their desert this Thanksgiving?
I understand how daunting it can be each year to get Leflaive into your collection. But, even in its infancy, the 2018 vintage promises to bring something special. It already has Wine Spectator calling it, “an ideal vintage at Domaine Leflaive” and after tasting through the wines last week– I’m amazed.
The Mâcon-Verzé is a stunner and an incredible value. Drawn from nine special plots, and utilizing a combination of steel, cement and oak fermentation that leads to a wide array of flavor profiles. Fresh Granny Smith Apple set against a persistent minerality, refreshing with hints of Meyer Lemon.
Of course, it’s got incredible length and precision and at the price today, is as good a bargain as exists at Domaine Leflaive. If you’re starting or expanding your cellar, this is an impeccable place to begin.
