Decoy Limited Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Categories , ,

Good, worthwhile under $30/bottle Cabernet from Napa Valley has never been harder to obtain. The category has almost completely dried up, especially as the economy and the environment have taken turns wreaking havoc over the past few years. I’ve started to look into the California Cabernet pool for the 2021 vintage, and unfortunately, I can confidently say that there will be no under $30 selections.

Luckily, the quality of the 2019 vintage in Napa was absolutely fantastic and I have something special for us from a big name that you all know. I guess we’ll call this a bit of a swan song… or a duck song, if you will.

Today’s Cab comes from the visionary Dan Duckhorn, who many consider to be a wine genius. The man is a Napa Valley icon, and his gutsy decision to expand his portfolio to other regions and other varietals took the brand to heights few would have imagined.

One of his greatest decisions was the creation of Decoy almost 30 years ago. The concept was to build a brand to help support the uber famous, Three Palms Merlot. But, as most of you know, Decoy wines have become a household name of their own accord – with a reputation for delivering unrivaled quality at a sensational price.

Original price was: $32.00.Current price is: $27.50.

Recently, I became infatuated with Duckhorn’s Postmark Cab – but after they moved full time to Paso Robles, the Decoy Blue Limited is the undisputed king. The Cabernet is a cuvee that utilizes fruit from some of the very best vineyards throughout Napa Valley including their own estate vineyards. Decoy’s Reserve Cabernet bottling is mainly comprised of fruit from Calistoga, but it also features Cabernet that comes from St. Helena, Stag’s Leap and even Rutherford.
