“Ciro is, in my opinion, the greatest producer of Fiano in Avellino – and therefore, the greatest producer of Fiano in the world” – Joe Campanle, “Vino: The Essential Guide to Real Italian Wine”
The quote above is not to be taken lightly, because Joe is probably right. I mean this is totally, totally knock-out Fiano that’s on a different level than most of its peers.
Ciro Picariello is a big hit with the NYC Michelin set, and with good reason. It’s a super classy bottle of wine. We’re talking high altitude, careful winemaking, and volcanic rich soils that produce some of the most structured, mineral laden, and age worthy whites we offer.
“The Ciro Picariello 2019 Fiano di Avellino Ciro 906 is a clear protagonist among the great white wines of Campania. Fruit comes from a one-hectare plot registered as “particella 906,” with vines planted in 1990 on rocky volcanic soils at 650 meters in elevation. Only 3,000 bottles emerge from this site. The wine stands apart for its texture, with firm fruit and a pretty, glossy quality. The bouquet is layered with lemon essence, saffron, green apple and crushed stone. You can count on this bottle to continue its evolution and to grow in complexity.”

“The 2018 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard marks the beginning of winemaker Joe Nielsen’s tenure at the winery. Pouring a medium yellow with a light golden hue, it’s most reserved of the flight aromatically at the moment, with yellow chamomile flowers, ripe peach, beeswax, and white flowers. Full-bodied, it retains excellent tension and focus on the palate, with apricot, orange zest, and a savory finish with a bit of spice. I suspect this will come around and open with time. Drink 2024-2030.” -Jeb Dunnuck
The newly released 2022 Domaine Laroche Chablis Saint Martin has some big shoes to fill as the last four vintages have earned 92-points or higher, but the early indications are that this is line with previous vintages if not even a little bit ahead at this stage. The problem is – there’s almost none to go around with much smaller yields. Still this is beautiful and crisp, with good focus, energy and depth. I get the signature green fruits on the nose, with some Asian pear, and a hint of jasmine blossom. There’s a beautiful mineral streak that highlights this one. It’s a fantastic White Burg for the price.
92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.
It’s an electric white Burgundy, with a limestone-laced aromatic profile of green apple, pear and hazelnut. Refined and high-toned, the pure, delicious fruit that is a hallmark of this terrific vintage, finishes long and fresh, with a mile-long mineral streak.
